NASHVILLE — Last year, Big G Express surveyed its drivers about the trucks they wanted to drive. Almost unanimously, drivers picked the Kenworth T680 as their truck of choice. As a result, the company has partnered with MHC Kenworth - Nashville and is transitioning its mixed fleet to the Kenworth product.
Headquartered in Shelbyville, Tenn., Big G Express provides general commodity, irregular route and dry van truck load services to customers nationwide. In 2009, the company became 100 percent employee-owned and continues to put drivers’ needs first to maintain a high retention rate.
“Our research shows that the majority of our drivers prefer Kenworth and we want to give our drivers what they want at a competitive price,” Big G Express President Randy Vernon said, in an interview with Kenworth. “The positive relationship we have with MHC Kenworth - Nashville makes a big difference in getting what we need, when we need it. Everyone in the MHC Kenworth organization is great to deal with.”
When the T680 first became available, MHC Kenworth - Nashville took Big G Express employees to the truck’s unveiling in Las Vegas, where they initially purchased 50 trucks. MHC’s exceptional service and ability to custom spec has led to an additional 300 trucks over the next two years.
“From Kenworth and PACCAR to the team at MHC, everyone has put forth a great effort to support this partnership,” Nashville Branch Manager Cory Dobbs said. “This has been a great relationship that is mutually beneficial. Big G Express has been instrumental in helping Kenworth come up with new ideas and products that are fuel-efficient and driver conscious.”
Big G Express operates 500 trucks that service customers across 48 states, with a heavy emphasis in the eastern United States. The T680s on order feature 76-inch high-roof sleepers, as well as some day cabs.
“No Big G driver has ever turned down an opportunity to get behind the wheel of a Kenworth,” Vernon said. “Offering the T680 has been a big positive for our retention - and a huge positive for our ability to recruit new drivers. We’re confident that Kenworth offers the best product on the road.”Located across 16 states, MHC is a network of over 100 locations, including 67 heavy and medium duty truck dealers, 36 MHC Truck Leasing locations, four Carrier Transicold locations, a TRP All-Makes Parts & Service store and a wholly-owned finance company, MHC Financial Services.
